There has been talk over the past couple of years about a Short Term Rental (STR) ordinance in North Myrtle Beach. There have been city council meetings, workshops, and even a proposed draft of the ordinance done by city staff and a local property managment company.
On June 10, 2025 the city had the first of two public opinion sessions whereby the public are able to voice concerns, ideas, opinions and have their thoughts heard by City Council. Round #1 was to the residents that do not own or manage a STR. Round #2 is supposed to be for STR owners, managers (including self managed and co-hosts), and companies and we are being told is coming in August, 2025.
I would like to open this topic up for discussion. What do you guys think about the proposed ordinance? Is there really a need for more oversight? Is the city over-reaching on this as a money grab? Do we need this to protect the quality of life for our full time residents? Let's hear your thoughts! I want to know.
